Admission Policies and Deadlines
It is important to note that no more than 12 semester graduate credits taken prior to acceptance into a graduate program may be counted toward the master's degree. The program of study for the master’s degree is to be completed within 6 years from the date of matriculation. Courses beyond the 8-year limit must be retaken. Early admission is thus essential to avoid delays in program completion and/or course work requirements. Completed applications are reviewed for acceptance into the Secondary Education program on a semester basis. Deadline dates are: March 15, for summer semester; June 15, for fall semester; October 15, for spring semester.
In order for Secondary Education faculty to develop a close working relationship with each M.Ed. student the department has a 12 credit(Logan) residency requirement. Most students meet this requirement by taking the department’s “short courses” during the summer months. Secondary Education (and other departments) offer an extensive summer program in Logan, with many graduate courses organized into two-week blocks. The remainder of the degree may be taken at USU extension centers or by electronic distance delivery.
Questions about the schedule of graduate offerings in your community are best handled by Continuing Education Center Directors around the state (listed below).
Once you are admitted, please get in touch with your faculty chairperson/advisor and maintain a close working relationship–either by phone or by e-mail. Our goal is to help you complete all degree requirements in a timely, professional way. If you are an off-campus student, your faculty advisor can assist you with certain paperwork requirements of the Graduate School; however, it is your responsibility to understand and meet all deadlines and expectations. You should also obtain a copy of the USU General Catalog (Graduate General Regulations) and carefully review the general regulations and degree requirements. The Catalog is available through the USU Bookstore, (435) 797-1666.
